Additional information concerning the plot of ‘Transformers: The Dark of the Moon’ has been revealed, via the film’s tie-in novels. Will the story make more sense this time?
We learned the official title of the third Transformers movie, Transformers: The Dark of the Moon, earlier this month. Now we have a bit more information about just what the plot of the film will be.
Amazon has posted a description of the Transformers 3 Push-Pops Board Book (it’s for the kids) and it contains a brief synopsis that seems to fit we what we already know about the threequel. Sort of.
eports that the third Transformers movie would reveal that the alien robots played a role in the Cold War space race between the Soviet Union and the U.S. began to surface last June. A leaked description of the opening scene for Transformers 3 lent further support to this idea – as does the film’s subtitle, of course. The tie-in book synopsis suggests that the Autobots and Decepticons will be engaging in space-set warfare in the film, but not necessarily only in flashbacks to the 20th century. Read on for the Transformers: The Dark of the Moon book description and see what we mean:
So – there will be a modern-day space race between Russia and the U.S.? Michael Bay does know that the Cold War ended a while ago, right?

“The Autobots Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide and Sideswipe led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s ‘Transformers Revenge of the Fallen’. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime ‘Transformers’ character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.”
So – there will be a modern-day space race between Russia and the U.S.? Michael Bay does know that the Cold War ended a while ago, right?
The story for Transformers 3 does have promise and it’s been comforting to hear both LaBeouf and Bay finally admit that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was, well, not very good. Production on the third giant robots flick didn’t exactly get off to a stellar start, what with Megan Fox getting the boot and Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley being brought onboard, but Bay has assembled an otherwise solid (human) supporting cast for the film.
There’s no doubt that the third Transformers will be a box office hit – we’re all just hoping that it features a coherent story to go along with the CG robots wreaking havoc. A trailer for the film should be on the horizon soon and will hopefully help us maintain our semi-optimistic outlook for now.
Transformers: The Dark of the Moon arrives in 2D and 3D theaters in the U.S. on July 1st, 2011.
